Netflix Renews 'You' for Season 3

After a wild second season, Netflix announced on Tuesday it will bring back “You” for a third season in 2021.
“You” follows obsessive, murderous Joe Golberg (Penn Badgley) and his dangerous game of love. In the first season, Joe seduces Guinevere “Beck” (Elizabeth Lail), a relationship that ends in murder. Keen to start over in season two, Joe (now Will Bettleheim) moves from New York to Los Angeles where he finds love in a woman named Love (Victoria Pedretti). Like Joe, Love isn’t afraid to murder, though her motivations are often to keep people she cares about safe.
“Love is really good at pursuing what she wants at all costs,” Pedretti told Harper’s Bazaar about her character. “I don’t think that people should murder people though. Or hurt others for the sake of that because then you can’t look back and feel good about it. But I do think it is important to pursue your own life for yourself, which I think she is trying to do.”
“You” seasons one and two quickly gained popular and critical acclaim. However, after season one, some people expressed concern that the show inadvertently normalized Joe’s violent stalker relationship with Beck. In response, Badgley highlighted how “You” mirrors the way society often treats — or absolves — abusive perpetrators.
“I personally feel [the show] is a bit of a social experiment,” Badgley told E! Online. “It’s a litmus test to see the mental gymnastics that we’re still willing to perform on a cultural level to love an evil white man.”

“You,” which aired on Lifetime for its first season, is based on the books “You” and “Hidden Bodies” by Caroline Kepnes. Kepnes is currently writing a third book in the series. The show’s second season dropped on Netflix on Dec. 26.
While not many details about “You” season three have been announced yet, both Badgley and Pedretti will return for another 10 episodes sometime in 2021.
