A parent’s job is never done — which is why Andre Palmer went to visit his 20-month-old son in the hospital after finishing his third shift at work.

When Palmer arrived at York Hospital Pediatrics in York, Pennsylvania, early Tuesday morning, he found his son asleep in a crib and his wife sleeping in a sleeper chair. So Palmer did what any exhausted parent who wants to be near his child would do: he went to sleep nearby — on the floor.

“I took the picture because I thought what a selfless thing for my husband to do,” Amy Palmer wrote on Facebook. “He could have went home after work, he could have asked me to get up.”

According to Palmer’s wife, the room their son was in was extremely small, with only room for the crib and chair she was sleeping in. “The hospital was amazing the whole time we were there,” Amy Palmer said. “They did not know what he did, for if they did I know they would have offered him something!”

Fortunately for Palmer, he wasn’t left on the floor for long. “I quickly got him up into the bed/chair I was sleeping in,” Amy Palmer said. “But not before taking the picture that I felt spoke volumes about the good person, husband, and father he truly is.”

Palmer’s son is doing much better and is now at home resting.
