What to Remember If You’re in Recovery From an Eating Disorder
It’s hard. This is a given. Recovery isn’t supposed to be easy (even though I wish it sometimes was).
You’ll cry. A lot. There will be tears shed. Sometimes from being sad, sometimes from being stressed, sometimes from being happy. No matter what the case, tears will be shed.
You’ll slip up. Again, recovery is hard. Recovery isn’t linear. There will be times when you’ll be doing great, and there will be times that you won’t be doing so great.
A slip up does not equal relapse. Whenever I slip up, I freak out thinking that a full-blown relapse is about to happen. But in reality, that is not true.
People recover at different rates. Don’t compare yourself to others in recovery. Everyone is different and so is their recovery.
You don’t have to be the sickest to get help. I always thought I wasn’t worthy of getting help because I wasn’t “as sick” as others. All eating disorders are bad, and everyone deserves recovery.
It gets better. Soon you’ll start to come at peace with food and start to love yourself.
Recovery is worth it. As much as recovery sucks, it is so worth it. Recovery is probably the best decision I’ve ever made.
