Halsey Meets With Fans While Receiving an IV for Her Chronic Illness
Life with chronic illness can be incredibly unpredictable, making it difficult to plan ahead and commit to much of anything. But when illness flares up at inopportune times, sometimes you just have to make the best of it.
On Wednesday night, Halsey shared a photo on Instagram of her hanging out with fans on a couch in her dressing room with an IV hooked up to her arm. Although she was scheduled for a meet and greet with fans before her concert in Oakland, the singer was “really sick” and had to make a few adjustments.
“Didn’t think I could stand and was attached to this (annoying) IV putting fluids and medicine in my body,” Halsey wrote on Instagram. “SOOOO, I invited my meet and greet group to my dressing room and asked everyone to come chill on the couch and kick it with me!”
Was really sick yesterday. Didn't think I could stand, and was attached to this (annoying) IV putting fluids and medicine in my body. SOOOO, I invited my meet and greet group to my dressing room and asked everyone to come chill on the couch and kick it with me! And then we had a fucking SICK show in Oakland that night! Thanks to the fans for being so cool and understanding. This post isn't so that you applaud me. It's a reminder to everyone struggling with chronic illness that YOU GOT THIS!!!! Ur a boss go kick some ass. ????????⚡️ and if u can't right now, that's okay too. You'll be kickin ass in no time.
The platinum-selling singer, who has been diagnosed with endometriosis, has been open about her health challenges, and thanked fans for being “so cool and understanding.”
Halsey also used her post to remind fans who may be going through similar difficulties that they too can “kick some ass.” “It’s a reminder to everyone struggling with chronic illness that YOU GOT THIS!!!!,” she wrote. “Ur a boss go kick some ass. and if u can’t right now, that’s okay too. You’ll be kickin ass in no time.”
This isn’t the first time Halsey has shared what it’s like to perform and tour with a chronic condition. In June, she shared a photo of herself holding up her shirt to reveal a heating pad with the caption, “As many of you guys know, I live with #endometriosis. It can be really hard. Sometimes I feel like I can barely stand. But on nights like tonight, I slap on a heating pad and take some medicine and go hustle it out.”
Took this as soon as I stepped off stage. Making heating pads sexy since 2014. As many of you guys know, I live with #endometriosis. It can be really hard. Sometimes I feel like I can barely stand. But on nights like tonight, I slap on a heating pad and take some medicine and go hustle it out. It's been so fun playing these intimate shows and it's juicing me up for the big tour in the Fall!!! I would do anything for you guys! I hope you are loving Hopeless Fountain Kingdom, because for me life has never felt better ❤️
Endometriosis is a chronic condition in which tissue similar to the lining of the uterus is found outside the uterus, on parts of the body like the ovaries, fallopian tubes, or even the bladder or bowel. The painful condition affects an estimated 176 million women worldwide.
Despite her battles with the condition, Halsey seems determined to find ways to live her life and continue to tour and perform – whether that means meeting fans while receiving an IV or cleverly fitting heating pads under her outfit.
“Touring with a chronic illness is equal parts challenging and rewarding,” she wrote in October. “What aches my body, warms my heart. Love u guys.”
Halsey’s fans responded to her modified meet and greet with an outpouring of love and support, sending her messages of thanks and well wishes on social media.
