My 'Lucky Fin' Isn't a Disadvantage
I was born with a limb difference, leaving my left hand missing. Growing up, I never felt like I had a disadvantage. I always found a way to do things my own way.
That mentality carried on throughout my education. In college, I chose to major in chemistry and I never let my disability get in the way of performing any experiment. I recently graduated with honors from the University of California, Irvine where I obtained a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry with a concentration in biochemistry. I will continue to further my education with a Masters degree in biochemistry. I hope to be able to use my scientific background to do research and unlock the answers to many incurable diseases.
Through all the challenges I’ve had to overcome, the most important thing I learned is that the human brain is a powerful tool – as long as you believe in yourself, you can overcome anything. I came across the Lucky Fin Project on Instagram where I found out that many people are born with limb difference. It makes me ecstatic to feel like part of this community.
