Sarah Hyland shared a powerful response to a Life & Style article that claimed her face had changed due to plastic surgery, rather than the health challenges she’s been facing for years.

Hyland tweeted the article, which was titled “Plastic Surgery Experts Weigh in on ‘Modern Family’ Star Sarah Hyland,” commenting, “THIS MAKES ME SO MAD. to have Drs give their opinion ON MY FACE is absolutely ridiculous and degrading. Fuck off.” The actress has kidney dysplasia and underwent a kidney transplant in 2012.

Then, she tweeted a note, which explained that she “had the worst medical year” of her life and that creating an article around whether or not she had plastic surgery is “the most insulting thing.”

“You have NO IDEA what I have been through…MY face has been altered by LIFE SAVING medication,” she wrote.

Within hours of Hyland’s tweets, the story was edited. It now has the headline “See ‘Modern Family’ Star Sarah Hyland’s Transformation Through the Years,” and reads, “Rumors are taking over the internet that Sarah Hyland has gone under the knife — and while the ‘Modern Family star will agree she does look different, it’s not because of plastic surgery.”

Hyland tweeted a screenshot of the updated article and commented, “Why don’t you just delete the article about how different I look over the past 10 yrs instead of deleting ‘drs’ comments.”

Hyland has addressed her health and changes to her appearance before. In May, she responded to comments she’s received about her body, explaining she hasn’t had “the greatest year” and that it’s brought “a lot of changes and with that, physical changes.”

“No one’s head should be bigger than their body but considering I’ve basically been on bed rest for the past few months, I’ve lost a lot of muscle mass. My circumstances have put me in a place where I’m not in control of what my body looks like,” Hyland wrote, adding:

I don’t mind when you say that I look pregnant. Or fat. Because I know that my face is swollen from medication that is saving my life. For those on prednisone I know what you’re going through and I commend you sticking it out as I have.

After her tweets responding to Life & Style, Hyland then tweeted a series of videos of herself wearing a beauty mask. “You come for me, I come for you,” Hyland said. “I’m so beautiful right now, all my plastic surgery paid off.”
