How Having Anxiety Has Affected My Sex Life

Since I’ve had anxiety, my sex life has changed drastically. I would have to say: sometimes it’s for the better, and sometimes the worse.

When I was first diagnosed with anxiety, my boyfriend at the time couldn’t understand how something like that could affect our sex life so drastically. I used to be able to do anything without a problem. After being diagnosed with anxiety, I had to be careful about what I did and how I did it.

Instead of being able to just jump into bed and have sex, I had to stop and take breaths, telling myself I was alright. This bothered my boyfriend over time. So, I knew I had to do something to make this situation better. I had to find subtle ways to get past my anxiety during sex.

Now, during foreplay, I take my deep breaths between kisses and tell myself to relax; for me, this has worked.

My husband has no idea that anxiety is acting up. There are times when he asks me if I’m OK, but I believe he just wants to make sure I’m OK.

So, I’m happy to say: no matter what you’re diagnosed with, you can always find a way to make it better.
