HBO to Feature New Robin Williams Documentary 'Come Inside My Mind'
This August marks four years since beloved comedian and actor Robin Williams died. Williams died by suicide while struggling with Lewy body dementia, one of the most common causes of dementia that affects thinking, movement, behavior and mood.
While his death came as a shock to many fans, it wasn’t the first time Williams struggled with darkness. Now, a new documentary, “Robin Williams: Come Inside My Mind,” explores his history of depression and addiction, as well as what made him so brilliant at comedy.
“Stand up is survival,” Williams says in the opening line of the trailer, “For me, that’s jazz. That’s what I have to do.”
From the trailer, we can see there’s a disconnect between Williams the performer and Williams the man. “He was really comfortable on stage,” comedian Steve Martin says in an interview. “Offstage, I just felt like he was holding himself together.”
The documentary also features Robin Williams’ son, as well as comedian Billy Crystal, who spent time with Williams towards the end of his life.
The documentary drew more than one million viewers when it became available for streaming on HBO Go Monday night. You can watch it on HBO channels starting July 20. See the full schedule here.
