Nadiya Hussain's Instagram Post Is For Any Anxious Mamas Struggling Through the Motions of Parenthood
Past winner of “The Great British Bake Off” Nadiya Hussain’s Instagram post is for any parent who finds themselves “going through the motions” for their kids despite their mental illness.
Hussain, who has anxiety and panic disorder, said she was having a bad couple days and couldn’t explain the “black hole” she was in, even though she wanted to. Hussain said she was only getting out of bed because her children needed her too.
“The saddest thing is, the people that give me light in my life, even their smiles can’t fix what is so badly broken,” Hussain wrote. “So I push and tug at myself to see the love that they have to give and I push and tug and remind myself that I have the same love to share. I don’t always see it, I can’t always find it.”
Saturday morning, though, Hussain saw the “glimmer” of light her children give her in the darkness. Hussain shared a photo Saturday of her smiling kids after they joined her in bed “like little love leeches.”
Even when the “light” isn’t more than a glimmer, Hussain said she’ll keep going until she feels the sun on her face.
