Whether you live by astrology or roll your eyes at it, you’ve probably found a helpful — or “coincidental,” for you skeptics out there — tidbit or two about yourself or others within the zodiac. Fortunately, you don’t have to believe in astrology to benefit from these zodiac-inspired self-care tips.

The truth is most of us struggle to prioritize self-care regardless of our signs. It’s easy to think, “Am I doing this right?” when trying to care for yourself. Or just resorting to the more “stereotypical” types of self-care, like bubble baths or watching TV, when you feel overwhelmed. It’s important to remember there’s no right or wrong way to perform self-care. The only requirement is to do something you’ll benefit from, whether that is unwinding with a good book or finally putting your laundry away.

With that in mind, we looked to the stars and came up with a self-care task each sign can perform to give their mental health a bit of a boost. Below you’ll find a description of each sign, along with a self-care task. We hope this list helps you take some time for yourself but, like astrology, if you don’t like it, you don’t have to use it.

Aries (March 21 – April 19)

Go, go, go — that seems to be the Aries’ motto. You view life as though it were a competition, but taking time to pause doesn’t mean admitting defeat. Grab a journal and dedicate some time to self-reflection.

Taurus (April 20 – May 20)

There’s a reason Taurus is illustrated by a bull as you’re known for being a bit… er, bullheaded at times. But giving in is not the same as giving up, and as much as you may hate change, it can be good at times. Take a step, even if it’s just a baby step, outside of your comfort zone. You may be surprised how much you enjoy it.

Gemini (May 21 – June 20)

Charming to a fault, there’s no one a Gemini can’t befriend. While it’s great to tend to those around you, when is the last time you checked in with yourself? Take 10 minutes for yourself and identify one thing you need today.

Cancer (June 21 – July 22)

The emotional caregiver for those around you, you have a hard time sharing what’s on your mind. You fear communicating your needs may push away those you cherish most but that’s not a reason to keep it in. Let go and speak your truth, Cancer. It’s OK to let others care for you.

Leo (July 23 – August 22)

Like your animal counterpart the lion, your pride is very important you. The best leaders are those who know when it’s time to ask for help. Needing support doesn’t make you weak — it makes your bond with others stronger.

Virgo (August 23 – September 22)

One of the hardest-working signs in the zodiac, Virgos are known for their meticulous nature. You like everything in its place, and when it’s not you tend to get a bit critical of others and yourself. Instead of picking yourself apart, write down three positives.

Libra (September 23 – October 22)

Your moral compass often helps you steer clear of conflict but you can’t outrun your problems forever, Libra. It’s OK to want to protect others’ feelings but not at the expense of sacrificing your own. Try telling someone how you really feel today.

Scorpio (October 23 – November 21)

Assertive and decisive, Scorpios love exercising control over every situation. You often feel like nothing gets done if you don’t do it yourself. Have some faith in those around you. Identify something out of your control, and let others handle it.

Sagittarius (November 22 – December 21)

Patience is not your virtue, Sagittarius, but generosity is. Give yourself the care you extend to others by pointing your energy inward and being patient with yourself. Next time you feel yourself panicking, take a deep breath and ask yourself what the rush is.

Capricorn (December 22 – January 19)

Always professional, Capricorns love to maintain appearances. But when things don’t go as planned, you tend to hold on to it and brood. Let go of that grudge you’ve been holding and try to practice forgiveness — whether that’s forgiving yourself or others.

Aquarius (January 20 – February 18)

Intelligent and independent, Aquarians soak up new information like a sponge but prefer to work out their thoughts alone. Instead of practicing self-care on your own, call up a friend and do something together.

Pisces (February 19 – March 20)

One of the most sensitive signs in the zodiac, Pisces have a tendency to feel things a bit too deeply. Saying “yes” at the sacrifice of your own health doesn’t make you a hero. Protect your time and energy: Say “no” to what’s outside of your bandwidth.
