Trans Disabled Entertainer The Goddess Bunny Dies at 61

Trans disabled entertainer Sandie Crisp, known as the Goddess Bunny, has died at the age of 61, according to Them, on January 27. Crisp’s cause of death has not been confirmed, but a GoFundMe for Crisp’s memorial service suggests that complications from HIV may have contributed to her death. Crisp gained a cult following through modeling for Rick Owens, starring in Dr. Dre and Marilyn Manson’s music videos, and appearing in the film Hollywood Vice Squad with Carrie Fisher. Owens told Vice that Crisp ” saw herself as mainstream and she saw herself as being a goddess and a star, and that’s how she lived her life and approached the world.”

Them reports that Crisp had polio when she was younger and received inadequate medical care, including a spinal implant that severely affected her posture and growth. Crisp came out as trans as a teen and later created the documentary The Goddess Bunny on her life. Unfortunately, Crisp told Vice in 2016 that she was underpaid or not paid at all for her music video appearances, and said that she is “actually a very sad person because of how others take advantage of [her] because of [her] disability.”

Friends and fans of the Goddess Bunny expressed their condolences on social media.
