It’s not often we see diabetes tech in major fashion advertisements.

Lila Moss, 19-year-old daughter to Kate Moss, was recently seen in a Fendi-Versace campaign.

The ad campaign features Moss sporting her blood insulin monitor while also being adorned in the designer label’s newest fashions from the 2022 pop up collection.

It’s not the first time she’s openly talked about or shown what tools she utilizes to help manage her type 1 diabetes. In an episode of “In The Bag” with British Vogue, she opened the contents of her Prada bag to show us her “Jungle Book” phone, cardholder, a book, some mangled headphones, a notebook, polaroids, but also her glucose tablets in case her sugar starts dropping, and the control for her omnipod which helps distribute her insulin (which is so important she has a tracker on it, so she won’t lose it).

The same omnipod she showed off during the 2022 Met Gala underneath a sheer embellished Burberry gown.

Normalizing conversations about life with disabilities, especially in regards to the technology and tools people use, is important because it helps enable people who may feel ashamed or awkward about accommodations that they need to feel more comfortable and empowered. People with disabilities can oftentimes feel othered due to the ways that ableism plays into opportunities and beauty standards. Seeing Lila Moss show off her T1D tech repeatedly is a win for disability representation, yes, but especially for the diabetes community.
