Growing up, I always had trouble sleeping. From the moment I was born I would often times wake up during the night and, according to my parents, wake them up too. It got so bad that my parents got me sleep tested. But, the test came back with nothing and we kept pursuing an answer.
Finally, after all these years, I believe I found an answer: my anxiety. Every night I go to bed anxiety-ridden to the point it keeps me up and I think of every horrible situation and nightmare I have ever had. I finally came up with this answer the other night when I finally realized it was what my therapists have been telling me for years.
I felt I was the only one with this problem, but after talking with those in my family and others, I found out I am not alone. I also did a bit of research on Google and found articles online with advice for what to do. I also have begun looking at ways I can help myself sleep better at night.
If you are having trouble sleeping because of anxiety, just know you aren’t alone and there are plenty of resources out there to help. Be sure to also tell your therapist or doctor as they can help too.
