Potential Florida Serial Killer Shoots 3, Including Man on the Autism Spectrum

A series of murders over the past two weeks in Seminole Heights, a residential section of Tampa, Florida, has residents on edge. Three people have been killed by gunshot, including Anthony Naiboa, a 20-year-old on the autism spectrum.

The police believe the killings are linked based on the timing and proximity of each incident, although the mayor, Bob Buckhorn, said he is cautious calling the person a serial killer. So far, the police have not identified a motive or a suspect.

The first victim, Benjamin Mitchell, 22, was a full-time student at Hillsborough Community College. Monica Hoffa, 32, an American Sign Language teacher, was the second victim. Naiboa, the latest victim, died after he was shot on the 19.

“[Naiboa] was in the prime of his life and was taken instantly,” said interim Tampa Police Chief Brian Dugan during a news conference a day after Naiboa was killed.

Naiboa had gotten off at the wrong bus stop after work where he packaged hurricane relief supplies. Each shooting happened within a mile of each other, according to the Associated Press.

“He wasn’t any threat to nobody; he never did nothing to nobody,” Casimar Naiboa, father of Anthony Naiboa, told WFLA-TV. “I can’t believe my son is gone.”

Due to the current situation, police are escorting students to bus stops, and a city bus stop was rerouted to another location, according to the Tampa Bay Times. All three victims used the bus, police said.
