Dear Taylor Swift, Your Gift for My Son on the Autism Spectrum Changed His Life
Dear Taylor Swift,
A couple years ago you donated $10,000 after seeing my daughter’s youtube remake of one of your songs for donations for my son’s autism service dog.
You probably didn’t know this, but when you donated $10,000 towards my son’s service dog, you helped to give him the priceless gift of a best friend.
You probably didn’t know your kindness would help my son gain the independence he’s needed for years now. At 8 years old, Jacob is finally able to walk around without being held on to and he is so proud of himself.
You probably didn’t know your generosity would give him a way to decrease his blood pressure and anxiety by petting or snuggling up next to his dog, Reid.
I’m sure you didn’t know your contribution would enable our family to do things together that we haven’t done in years.
You probably didn’t know Reid would help Jacob understand feelings, like sympathy and compassion.
Did you know your gift has facilitated many autism awareness conversations resulting in increased acceptance and understanding?
You couldn’t have known that within the first two weeks of having his service dog, Jacob’s dog would already save his life when he tried to dart away from us.
Your kindness helped Jacob gain more joy than we have even seen.
You didn’t know us; you didn’t know how big of a life-changing gift this would be, yet you still helped us.
We are forever grateful. Thank you.
