'I Can't Get My Teenager With Cerebral Palsy to Be More Independent'
In the video below, we’re answering a question from one of our YouTube fans. She has a teenager who has cerebral palsy and isn’t very independent. We try to give some useful tips to help him do more on his own. We offer several pieces of advice, but it’s hard to give tips when you know little about the person. One tip we talk about is therapy. We both had therapy growing up and it gave us the encouragement to try to do more on our own.
Chris Lenart has had cerebral palsy since birth and is nonverbal. He received his master’s in Software Engineering from DePaul University and worked for 14 years as a programmer analyst until 2009. He cowrote a book entitled “They Said We Couldn’t” discussing their life journeys with cerebral palsy and is currently trying to do public speaking about disability awareness.
