To the Friend Who Hasn’t Let My Depression Tear Our Friendship Apart
Dear Friend,
Thank you for not giving up on me, even when I had given up on myself.
Thank you for encouraging me to make plans to see you and for never making me feel bad if I’m not able to.
Thank you for understanding when your texts sometimes go unanswered for a few days, and thank you for not demanding an explanation as to why.
Thank you for assuring me that you’ll always be there for me, whether it be 2 p.m. or 2 a.m.
Thank you for letting me cry to you, sob to you and break down in front of you.
Thank you for holding me when I need to be held and giving me space when I need time alone.
Thank you for talking openly to me about my mental health, for making me feel so comfortable when I speak to you about how I’m feeling.
Thank you for not letting my illness tear our friendship apart.
