When You Want to Reach Out, but Depression Says Everyone Hates You

Crisis. Feeling like the world is crashing down around you. Falling into a heap of tears on the floor. Losing the motivation to stand back up. Wanting only to die but not having the motivation to even do anything about that.

What do you do?

Typically, I like to call a friend or support person. Having someone on the other end of the line has sometimes been the only thing to get me through a crisis. That’s my primary coping skill, and it works really well for me.

Until the negative thoughts take over.

Remember that silly thing you did? How about all these other foolish things? You’re an idiot. No one likes you. In fact, everyone hates you. Don’t bother calling anyone. You’re just a burden.

What now? Stranded in a world of crisis and firmly convinced no one wants anything to do with you, what do you do? What do you do now that you seem stranded?

Now, you have faith. You have faith in the relationships you have built. You call your friends. Even when depression has you convinced that they hate you, you call them. You trust the fact that they have always been there for you, and you believe them when they tell you that they love you.

No matter what depression tells you, you are loved and cared about. Even in crisis, there are people around you who want to help you. Do not let depression convince you otherwise. Keep the faith in the relationships you’ve built. You are loved.
