Depression can cause all kinds of mental symptoms, but it also affects a person physically. How does depression make my body feel?

Tired. Slow. Heavy. Cold.

Tired: The lack of sleep and the pain coupled with depression leads to a feeling of pure exhaustion. This exhaustion can be unbearable. I’ve found myself falling asleep at school and begging my parents to let me skip dinner and sleep.

Slow: The sludge of exhaustion causes this feeling of being like a snail, slow moving and overall just gross. I find myself attempting to climb stairs at a snail’s pace. It’s not just physical movement. My thoughts feel slow, too.

Heavy: My head, my legs, my arms, my entire body feels like it carries the weight of the world. I feel heavy and that adds to the feeling of being slow.

Cold: Feeling cold, mentally and physically, all the time is unpleasant. I feel constantly like I am cold or I simply feel nothing.

Depression can cause these physical feelings and that is something a lot of people tend to forget.
