To the Mom of a Complex Child Struggling to Keep It Together
I know this road is tough, mama. It’s exhausting. I know there are so many things going on all at once and you’re just one person trying to take care of it all while trying to maintain your mental health as well.
I won’t tell you “this too shall pass” or “it will get better eventually” because honestly, I know it can feel like it never will.
I’m here to tell you that you are not alone. We’re in this together. Talking to other parents going through the same things I am is almost always the only thing keeping me from breaking down. But sometimes breakdowns happen and that’s OK.
We’re only human. It’s only natural to “lose it” sometimes.
You may not know it, but you’re doing an amazing job. You get your child to all the appointments and therapies. You listen to all the newest information about your child’s condition the doctors throw at you you all at once and still manage to continue caring for your family, even if it feels like you aren’t.
I know you go to bed each night and wake up each morning with your child on your mind. I know the nonstop worry that comes with parenting a medically complex child. I also know you are a good mother. A great mother.
I want you to know that you can do this. No matter how hard it gets, no matter what life throws at you, you can do it, because you love your child and that love is what gives you the strength to keep going.
I also want you to know that it’s OK to take time for yourself when possible. Don’t feel guilty for wanting a break. You deserve it. So keep going, mama, you’ve got this.
