Dear President Trump, What About the Disability Community?

Dear President Trump,

My name is Brooks Fitts, and I am a 19-year-old from Raleigh, N.C. I’m writing to you today to ask you what you plan to do specifically for those with disabilities like myself, and how you plan on giving us the tools we need to live healthy and prosperous lives.

I was concerned when your administration deleted the White House page regarding disabilities, and I would like to know why that decision was made. President Trump, there are over 53 million Americans who live with a disability. Americans who contribute, Americans who vote, and Americans who love their country. By deleting the White House page with disability information, your administration has effectively said you do not care about us.

Sir, we all know how you mocked Serge Kovaleski’s disability on the campaign trail, and how deeply that affected many of us. Sir, do you not want relations between the disability community and you to improve? I merely have a mild case of cerebral palsy, something that makes me have a slight limp when I walk. However, many have far more serious cases, and the actions your administration takes could mean the difference between life and death.

I know you’re focused on many important issues, but please don’t forget about us. After all, you can’t Make America Great without 53 million Americans behind you.
