To the Mom Whose Baby Just Received a Down Syndrome Diagnosis
To the mother who just received a Down syndrome diagnosis or is fearing that one may come, just so you know, you’re going to be fine.
I know you’re going to be fine, not only because I can relate to you since I have a child with Down syndrome and he is an incredible gift, but I know this more than anything because you are a mother.
And mothers love their children.
And mothers don’t just love their children, mothers love their children unconditionally.
That means that no condition can hinder that love.
You will be fine because you will love this child no matter what.
That’s what mother’s do, they love their children — no matter what.
Children don’t earn their mother’s love. And mothers don’t have to teach themselves to love. A mother’s love is magical and instant, it never goes away and it has no boundaries.
No matter what they look like, no matter what their talents are, no matter what their weaknesses are, no matter what their interests are, no matter how much they test our limits, no matter if they need glasses or need therapies or if they take longer to be potty trained than average — a mother loves her children.
And it definitely won’t matter how many chromosomes this child has either. You will love them.
You will love them because that’s what mothers do.
We love our children.
And because of this love… you will be fine.
