Meet the First Gerber Baby With Down Syndrome
Lucas Warren, an 18-month-old with Down syndrome from Dalton, Georgia, is baby food brand Gerber’s newest “spokesbaby.” On Wednesday, Gerber announced Warren had won its signature photo contest.
In an interview with TODAY, Warren’s mom, Cortney Warren, said she submitted his picture “on a whim.”
Warren’s parents said they were shocked when he was chosen as the 2018 Gerber baby. “I hope it shines light into the special needs community showing that they are just like you and me,” Cortney said. “They should be accepted not based on their looks but based on who they are.”
Both parents are excited to see how the world reacts.
TODAY co-host Savannah Guthrie added, “It says so much; the Gerber baby is the ideal baby, and Lucas, you are the ideal baby.”
Lucas will be featured on Gerber’s social media.
