The Night Before Christmas, From a Grieving Parent's Perspective
‘Twas the night before Christmas,
When all through my home,
Not a creature was stirring,
Except Mamma would roam.
The stockings were hung
By the chimney with care.
All of my little ones’
Names were up there.
The children were nestled,
All snug in their beds.
I sat in my seat,
Raised my hands to my head.
One stocking hung empty.
It’d been almost two years.
Then suddenly I sniffled,
And on came the tears.
My sweet boy heard me.
He came running down.
With his arms around me,
I pushed off the ground.
He said, “Mom what’s the matter?
Why all the tears?”
I said,
“I just miss your sister, my dear.”
He pointed outside
And said, “Look at the snow.
They’re kisses from heaven, Mom.
Didn’t you know?”
The message came
To my heart loud and clear.
She said, “Mamma,
Please wipe away all your tears.
Tomorrow I want to watch you enjoy
My brothers opening all of their toys.
And Mamma, please think
Of Jesus’ birth.
I’m not gone forever,
Just gone from this earth.
