Hayley Okines, Teen Author With Rare Aging Condition, Dies at 17

Hayley Okines, a 17-year-old from England, died on Thursday night, The Mirror reported. The teenager lived with Hutchinson-Gilford Progeria Syndrome, a rare genetic condition that results in premature aging.

Doctors originally told Okines she would not live past 13, according to BBC News. She surpassed that, and, at age 14, published her renowned autobiography, “Young At Heart.”

“My life with progeria is full of happiness and good memories,” she wrote in her book.

The teen went on to become a face for the condition, spreading awareness around the world.
