It’s never fun to feel “forgotten” — and it can be heartbreaking to find out a close friend has been feeling forgotten for a while.

Maybe your friend has been struggling a lot with their mental health, and has been isolating. Maybe your loved one just moved away, and they feel a little “out of sight, out of mind” when it comes to people back home. Or maybe your friend feels left out because some of their friends have started hanging out more without them.

No matter what reason your friend has for feeling forgotten, sometimes a text can be such a simple, but powerful way to show you care. Because of this, we asked members of our mental health community to share one text they would love to receive when they’re feeling forgotten themselves. Below you will find their suggestions.

It’s important to remember our loved ones can’t read our minds. If you’re someone who has been feeling forgotten by your friends, we encourage you to talk to them and express how you’ve been feeling. We hope this list of text messages helps you start a conversation with a loved one — and we hope it also reminds you that even when you’re feeling forgotten, you’re never truly alone.

Here are some text messages members of our community would love to receive when they’re feeling forgotten:

You doing OK? I'm always here if you need me.

Hey, are you free tonight? I can bring some takeout and we can watch a movie if you're down!

I miss you!

Have been thinking about you, and know you have been struggling. Just know, you'll get through this. I love you, and care about you.

Hi. I just wanted to say I am so lucky to have you in my life. I know you haven't been feeling like yourself lately, but when you're ready, we should have a low key movie night. You mean so much to me ❤️

You're strong, beautiful and determined!

You're important to me. My life is better because you're in it. Let's spend a lazy day together. No expectations. We'll just watch a movie, play games, eat yummy food and/or just chat. It doesn't matter what we do. I just enjoy your company.

You're important to me. I'm blessed to have you in my life

I want to tell you how proud I am of you and how far you've come -- even if you don't believe it yourself. I don't want to be in a world where you aren't part of it. So please, stay. I can't promise it'll get better tomorrow -- but I can promise to stay with you even on your hardest days. And most of all, I love you even when you don't love yourself.

Hey you. I'm sorry I've been so busy lately, but I've thought about you every day. What's your schedule like this week? We should get together. I love you and we'll talk soon.

Hey. How are you doing?

Hey I was wondering how your day went. If you would like, I can come over and have a cup of coffee or tea with you.

Hey, I'm sorry you are having a bad day. But you matter and you are loved so much. I couldn't see myself without you.

You are loved, you are cherished, you aren't forgotten. ❤

I've got you. I'm not letting you go.

Hey, you matter. Never forget that. Love you ❤️
