A New Year, a New Approach to My Mental Illnesses
The year 2017 has finally begun. For many of us, 2016 was a year full of stress and disappointments. However, it was also a year to learn new coping skills and a year where many lessons were learned.
I have been challenged to take a new approach to my mental illnesses and to accept my imperfections in 2017. This means no longer being afraid of messing up or relapsing because it will happen. I am proud of myself for the little victories, and I won’t get down on myself for disappointments. I have to focus on the big picture: Recovery is possible, and it is happening.
I am challenging all of you to take the same approach and treat yourself well. Celebrate the small things, whether it be just getting out of bed in the morning or going to a social event. Every little step is a step to getting better. It won’t happen all at once, but it will happen.
