There are times in our lives when we’re incredibly active. We’re hanging out with friends and family, going on vacations, and attending social events. Then, there are other times when we don’t feel like doing anything at all. You may wake up in the morning and wonder, “Why am I here?” You think, “I don’t want to do anything.” If you’re somebody who’s extroverted and loves to see people and be around them, it can be a scary feeling not to want to do anything at all. Maybe you don’t even want to shower, and you think, “What is wrong with me?”
Could it be depression?
The answer is maybe. Clinical depression has several signs including increased appetite or decreased appetite. You may feel like sleeping all day or not sleeping at all. You may not want to exist. Look at the signs of clinical depression to see if you might fall into this category and take an assessment, such as Beck’s Depression Inventory. Sometimes apathy (or not wanting to do anything) can be a sign of something more serious. It’s important to pay attention to what you’re feeling. Your emotions can help you understand what’s going on inside you. You might be depressed, or maybe you need to change something in your life. Not wanting to do anything could be a sign that something isn’t right.
Something has to change
If you don’t want to do anything, something might be wrong and you’re unhappy. You need to change something in your life to make it better. You want to feel good, like when you wake up in the morning things are exciting. If you do not like your job, relationship, or current circumstances, you may have the power to change some of the things you’re unhappy with and don’t forget that. Feeling stagnant can be a sign that you feel powerless. But you do have power, and you can use it to help yourself transition from a dismal place in your life to a happier one where you can find love.
Maybe it’s anxiety?
When you find yourself unmotivated, that might not be what’s going on for you. It could be that you are overwhelmed or anxious. Anxiety can make people want to shut down and not take action. You might discover that it’s not that you don’t want to do anything, but instead, you have too many things to do. Shutting down is a normal reaction to feeling overwhelmed. Maybe you don’t want to do anything because the tasks you have to do are overwhelming. Take a breath and remember what you have to do right now. Focus on what’s in front of you because you don’t have to please every single person. You are only responsible for yourself. And you’re not letting anybody down if you’re doing the best you can.
What’s wrong with me?
It’s possible that you can’t figure out what’s wrong. Here’s the reality, there’s nothing the matter with you. You are beautiful just the way you are. We all have flaws and we all have strengths. If you can’t figure out why you’re not feeling up to doing anything, it might be time to seek help from a counselor. One of the best ways to figure out what’s happening to you and why things aren’t working is to go to therapy. Online counseling is an excellent place to explore those ideas of apathy or a lack of motivation. Whether you see a counselor in your local area or online, don’t ignore those feelings and thoughts were you don’t feel motivated to do things. It’s time to seek the truth and find out why you don’t feel like doing anything. It could be the sign of something more, and you don’t want to ignore that. Get the treatment you need now.
