The Upside of Kylie Jenner’s Offensive Cover, According to a Broadway Star

Kylie Jenner posing in a wheelchair on the cover of the December issue of Interview magazine has sparked a lot of conversation.

The able-bodied 18-year-old reality television star was photographed by Steven Klein sitting in an elaborate gold wheelchair, upsetting many wheelchair users and disability activists.

Recently, Broadway actress Ali Stroker, who uses a wheelchair and is in the musical “Spring Awakening,” expressed some thoughts on the subject as well.

Stoker told TMZ that while she wasn’t personally offended by the photos, she acknowledges that they were problematic and offensive to the disability community. She also points out the sliver lining of the situation, which is the discourse surrounding sexuality and disability.

“I think that the disabled community is ready to represent themselves,” Stoker says in the video above. “I feel like there is conversation now happening around sexuality and disability and that’s what I’m interested in.”

Stoker has also said on Twitter that she’s interested in recreating the photo shoot.
