Moving Beyond Self-Doubt as a Person With Epilepsy

You may  experience a lot of feelings, thoughts and confusion when you first find out you have epilepsy. I believe the most difficult one to get over is the feeling that no one will ever think of you the same way again. I had and still do on occasion have a very difficult time with this. I thought to myself, “Who could or would ever love someone like me?”

It’s a understandable thing to constantly be thinking about. But I learned it doesn’t help to think like that. You have to remember that you’re just like anyone else, you’re just special.

Now don’t misunderstand, you’re going to have self-doubting thoughts, and it’s normal. You just can’t let the thoughts control you. The easiest way I’ve found to do this is to forget you even have epilepsy when you don’t need to think about it. I know, easier said than done, but after a while you do get used to not worrying about it!

So don’t think just because you have epilepsy, or you’re different, that no one will like you or love you. Someone will see just how wonderful you are!
