Please Remember to Thank Teachers During the COVID-19 Pandemic
As soon as the battle starts, all of the warriors have their weapons with them. They are covered with armors of personal protective equipment, face masks, gloves and shoe covers. They are ready to conquer the villain and the very reason why people are scared to go outside of their houses. It is like being in a dystopian movie, but this time all the events are real.
After receiving the news, everyone is equipped with gear and all of the greatest heroes fill up the front line. Everyone has their own roles to play as the invisible opponent attacks at the most unexpected times, like a thief in the night targeting the vulnerable.
Amidst this difficult war of life and death, teachers fight against the virus through their papers, Excel files and lesson plans. They are hidden behind the piles of activities to be checked and loads of messages from students asking for help. They do not wear any protective gear, but are ready to give to the best of their abilities to the learners who still need them despite the hardships.
You may not see them treating and taking care of patients. Yet, they also have sleepless nights and grades to deal with. They are worried about those who need skills and knowledge and they spend most of their time at home creating lessons and discussion so no one stops learning. They may not be so visible during this darkest time, but they are not stopping doing their job and fulfilling their vocation. Like any other heroes, they have a unique purpose and that is to strengthen and develop future doctors, nurses and soldiers for the next generation.
They will never get tired of being one of the frontliners who sacrifice their time with their family and loved ones for their students and for the school. This battle will one day be over, but the mission of each and every one of the healthcare workers, pharmacists, drivers, janitors, guards and teachers will never end.
