To My Daughter With Down Syndrome: I’m With You
Things that come easy to me are mountains to you, but I’ll help you climb them.
Words that are easy for me may be hard for you, but I’ll help you say them.
Getting dressed is easy for me. It takes more time for you, but I don’t mind waiting.
Reading is easy for me. It’s a struggle for you, so we’ll go slower.
Learning comes easy to me. It’s hard work for you. I’ll work with you.
Understanding things is easy for me. It’s harder for you; I’ll always help you.
Kindness is easy for you. It’s harder for the world, but we will still share it.
Loving everyone is easy for you. It’s harder for me, but I’m learning.
Joy is easy for you. It’s harder for me, but you teach me.
Seeing the best in people is easy for you. It’s harder for me, but you help me.
Life is more beautiful for me because of you, and I’ll always try harder for you.
Everything you do, I watch you fight your way through. I watch you struggle, give up, try again, overcome. I watch you shut down when you think it’s too hard. But honey, you are the strongest person I know. You are brave, kind, resilient. You are everything this world needs.
I watch you climb mountains every day. There is no mountain I won’t climb with you. There is no battle I won’t fight for you.
