Demi Lovato to Address Near-Fatal Overdose in New YouTube Series 'Dancing With the Devil'

On Wednesday, Demi Lovato announced a new docuseries with YouTube that will address her 2018 overdose and mental health journey over the last three years of her personal and professional life. Titled “Dancing With the Devil,” the four-part show started filming during her 2018 Tell Me You Love Me World Tour. It will provide viewers “an honest look” at Lovato’s difficult journey before, during and after her overdose.

The Frontlines: Lovato has been open about her mental health struggles, including addiction, bipolar disorder and an eating disorder. About “Dancing With the Devil,” Lovato wrote on Instagram, “There has been so much that I’ve wanted to say, but knew I had to say it right.”

  • In her 2017 documentary “Simply Complicated,” Lovato also candidly tackled the mental health challenges she has faced.
  • Since her overdose, Lovato has shared some parts of her recovery journey, but hasn’t gone into detail (though she does not owe anyone an explanation or details).
  • In a July 2020 interview with Bustle, Lovato said she’s still called to use share her story to help others, but this time around she wanted to allow herself more time to heal.
