Dealing with Ableist reactions to Visual Agnosia
Visual Agnosia is rare, so rare that I found out last year when I was 58 that the visual impairment that I have had all of my life was due to visual agnosia. One of the issues with having a rare disorder is that when people ask why you are visually impaired, and you tell them the truth, they tend not believe that visual agnosia is real. Its quite real, and its developmental in my case. The primary issue I have with visual agnosia is dealing with ableist individuals who either doubt the veracity of my visual agnosia or act as if I can make it "go away" if I think positive and have self discipline. I have yet to find a way to fully deal with ableist individuals about this, what do you all think? How do you all deal with ableists and visual agnonisa?
