Glen Campbell Dies at 81 After Battle With Alzheimer's Disease
Legendary country music singer Glen Campbell died Tuesday after facing Alzheimer’s disease. He was 81.
“It is with the heaviest of hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved husband, father, grandfather, and legendary singer and guitarist, Glen Travis Campbell, at the age of 81, following his long and courageous battle with Alzheimer’s disease,” the singer’s family said in a statement.
The Country Music Hall of Fame singer was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s in 2011 when he was 75. That June, he announced his retirement from music, and in January 2013, he recorded what he said would be his last song in Los Angeles. The single, called “I’m Not Gonna Miss You,” was part of the documentary “Glen Campbell: I’ll Be Me” that followed the singer on his final tour. The music video that accompanies the song was released in October 2014. It features home videos of Campbell and delves into the devastating realities of Alzheimer’s disease.
Kim Campbell, his wife, is expected to release a personal statement soon.
