I spent my entire life around dogs. Actually, it is a lie. I took two years off from having any pets because as a single parent of three, a full-time business and dealing with family drama made me realize that I needed a break, and since I couldn't send my kids to the shelter, I decided not to adopt any more dogs after the one I had has passed.

A little less work was nice. No more sweeping the hairy floors, no more wiping the drool off the sofa, and no more barking in the middle of the night when raccoons or cats are scouting the yard for some food scraps.

Those were the longest two years and I have to admit, I missed the stinky breath of a dog. I missed the warmth of their body when they gently throw themselves onto my bed and attempt to take over my spot. I missed the cuddles and their cuteness as they played fetch or tug-of-war. Two very long years of not having my personal dog therapy.

Yes, I realized that having a dog is the best therapy you can get. The non-judgmental and unconditional love they give you is something you cannot simply pay for no matter how good of a therapist you find.

And here I am, finding myself again in serious need of that therapy.

This year didn't start well for any of us. Losing close friends and two furry family members took its toll. It's been a few months since the last dog hair has been swept off the floor, and suddenly I miss the little clumps floating around.

I have to remain strong. My plans of adopting another furry child are not clear yet. I want to do other things before I have to commit myself to the responsibility, but I have to say to every pet owner; your pets can be great therapists if you only allow it. They are great listeners. You can talk to them all day long and they won't send you a bill. All they want is love and affection for which they return the same. #Dogs #Dogtherapy #animalsrock #adoptapet
