Why I Love Podcasting as a Person With a Disability

I am a podcaster with a disability. Many of my projects are with the disabled community, but anyone can listen in and find something unique for them. Before I started my podcast, I was a known disability advocate.

It’s always a dream and an honor to meet others in the same industry. As a podcaster, I know just how important it is to network with others around me. Millennials often have a tough time networking these days with baby boomers still holding their expertise, but networking with peers is also important.

I’ve had the pleasure of running a podcast called “Aaron’s Journey” where I talk about people with cool jobs. In a recent episode, I was able to interview a prominent voice actor, Paul Marshal. He’s known for his work producing “Jimmy Neutron” and playing a monkey named Paul. I also got to speak with Mark DeCarlo who does the voice of Jimmy Neutron’s dad, Hugh Neutron. They shared their experiences with working on the show. Interviewing them was an eye-opening experience and I will never forget it.

The media industry is a playground if you know how to use it. For podcasters in particular, it can be an incredible place, especially when networking with peers and celebrities. Whether you are new, experienced, old, young, disabled etc. you can become anything you set out to be. Don’t let anything stop you from reaching your dreams! You never know what you can do in your life unless you try.

If you want to be a podcaster, here is my advice. Be dedicated, passionate, consistent, love what you do and never give up! I hope my words of wisdom encourage you to pursue your dreams.
