Why I Appreciate International Bereaved Mother's Day
International Bereaved Mother’s Day was started by Carlie Marie in Australia, for the death of her son, Christian. He had already passed away in her womb a few weeks before she delivered him.
“In 2010 I felt drawn to create International Bereaved Mother’s Day to help heal hurting Mother Hearts,” Carlie Marie said in an article on Mothering.com. “International Bereaved Mother’s Day is intended to be a temporary movement. It is a heart centered attempt at healing the official Mother’s Day for all mothers. I believe we can do this and that sometime in the near future there will be no need for this day at all because all true mothers will be recognized, love, supported and celebrated.”
I am a mother to my daughter in heaven, every day. My arms will always ache to hold her. My eyes always yearn to see her sweet smile one more time. My nose will always long to smell that sweet scent that was only hers. My mouth so badly misses kissing her sweet, soft, skin. My hands want to reach and touch her. My heart aches for the moments that are forever gone. Only memories that swirl around in my heart. My love will always be a whisper in the wind. Praying and hoping, that whisper is carried away to the heavens and captured by my sweet child who is no longer here in my arms.
Bereaved Mother’s Day is a day set aside for the moms of angels. The one day that we can remember our child in heaven. A day especially for them. For us. A day we can share our heartbreak, sorrow, sadness, happy memories, love and any other emotion we have with the rest of the world.
One of our greatest fears is that people will forget about our child. Talking about our child and letting us talk about them, is a treasured gift. Remember us on this special day. Remember our child.
A visible sign you might see on the days/weeks leading up to Bereaved Mother’s Day is women with a heart drawn on her hand or wrist, with their child’s name on the inside of the heart. If you see one, ask them about their heart. There is nothing more they would love to do, then talk about their angel child.
If you know a bereaved mother, give her a hug, let her know you haven’t forgotten her angel. To hear others speak our child’s name is a hopeful whisper to our ears and hearts.
This bereaved Mother’s Day, my heart and love go out to all my “soul sisters,” the many mothers who are living without their child on this earth and in their arms.
My wish for all of us is that this day will be a day filled with joyous and loving memories of our precious children. May we all have the strength to continue on our journey of keeping their memories alive, and finding joy, knowing our children will never be forgotten as long as we have breath left in us.
Peace and love to you all.
