After people began criticizing Aaron Carter’s appearance and claiming he was using drugs earlier this summer, the pop singer said he had lost weight due to his hiatal hernia and that he was also struggling with anxiety. On today’s episode of “The Doctors,” Carter allowed the show’s medical experts to test those claims and reveal what’s really going on with his health.

Carter tested negative for all illegal drugs as well as any infections in his liver, thyroid and kidneys and for STDs including HIV. However, doctors Jorge Rodriguez and Travis Stork discovered candida in his throat, which they said can be a sign of a weakened immune system. They also said he was malnourished, with a body mass index in a “scary range.”

Carter tested positive for prescription drugs used to treat anxiety and pain, leaving Stork and Rodriguez concerned the star might mix his medications, which can be deadly.

“We can’t just sit here and blame it on a hiatal hernia. We have got to work on this,” Stork said.

“In my opinion, you’re not healthy… physically right now, I think your body is hanging on by a thread, seriously,” Rodriguez said. “[Your mind] has to calm down… you are going a million miles a minute… until there is peace in your mind, the rest is not going to follow.”

Carter also talked about the pain of his sister and father’s deaths, his “nonstop” schedule and difficulty getting enough sleep. He said he wakes up with anxiety, “no appetite” and nausea.

“I wanna say I’m sorry for the way that I look and that I’m doing my best to get better,” Carter said.

At the end of the show, the doctors recommended Carter go to an inpatient rehab facility. Though Carter initially agreed to go, after the interview he said he had work commitments and it was unclear if he would follow through with rehab.
