5 Things to Do If You're Bored at Home With Chronic Illness
Living with a chronic illness can leave us feeling bored. Whether it is days spent bedridden or rocking the sofa after a period of time, watching re-runs of “The Brady Bunch” will only suffice so much.
Here are some suggestions:
I know it can be difficult to form a sentence let alone write one down. But what about starting a journal? It may be useful to not only log your symptoms, but it may be therapeutic. It does not have to be long like “War and Peace.” My brain only works so much, so I find that my maximum is about 300 words (kind of like this piece!). Or maybe you are indeed writing the next bestseller?
2. Chair yoga
Now seriously. Chair yoga. Check out YouTube Videos for how you can “work out” in bed or on the sofa. But be gentle with yourself and check with your doctor.
I don’t know about you, but I can’t read a novel these days as my cognitive issues and fatigue make it next to impossible. Audiobooks are free at your library or you can download them as well.
Were you creative as a kid? Is it a long, lost hobby? Well bring it back, baby! Now is the time to get your creative juices flowing. Maybe some pastels? Acrylics? Origami? Photography?
What about tending to an indoor garden? Household plants are beneficial to your well-being and bring life to your home. Plants might even cheer you.
Being sick and housebound can make anyone stir-crazy. But there are outlets to not only entertain yourself, but also aid you in your recovery and wellness.
What do you enjoy doing to fill your time?
