Lorde Claps Back at People Who Try to Tell Her How to Treat Her Acne
Lorde is not here for anyone’s’ unsolicited “suggestions” for treating her acne, and has some words of encouragement for others dealing with “bad skin.”
On Saturday night, Lorde posted an Instagram story of herself lying down with a purplish-pink light on her face (Refinery 29 reported it was an acne LED light therapy device). The first video featured the caption, “Acne light with the magical tones.”
She then spoke to the camera and admitted, “For real though, acne sucks.”
“You know what also sucks,” she continued in the next video, “when you’ve had acne for years and years and years, done all the drugs, tried all the things, and people are still like, ‘You know what worked for me? Moisturizing.’”
She then recited a few recommended treatments she’s heard.
“Make a mask out of honey, Greek yogurt and avocado,” she said. “All you need to do is buy an apricot scrub. Coconut oil, the secret is coconut oil.”
“And the very worst one, of course, is when people think you’re just dirty,” she added. “‘Do you wash your face?’ It’s like, yes I wash my face, I’m just genetically cursed.”
She ended with some words of encouragement for others out there who have “actual bad skin.”
“For anyone out there who’s got bad skin, and actual bad skin, not the kind of bad skin you can just use a fancy cream for for a few days and it will get better, I feel your pain,” she said. “We will get there, we will. I promise.”
This isn’t the first time Lorde has spoken up about her skin challenges. In 2014, she shared two photos taken of her on the same day and pointed out how one had been edited to remove her skin blemishes.
i find this curious – two photos from today, one edited so my skin is perfect and one real. remember flaws are ok 🙂 pic.twitter.com/PuRhxt2u2O

She also shared a photo of herself with her “acne cream.”
