7 Available Remote Jobs You Can Apply for This October
When you have a chronic illness or disability, there are aspects of working that can be especially difficult if you work in an office. You may want to avoid looking like you’re taking too many breaks or feel you don’t “look sick enough” to do so. Even if you’re open with some of your co-workers or your boss about living with a condition, you may still worry about how others will treat you.
Mighty contributor Sam Wilson shared how this impacts their work day in the article, “5 Reasons Office Life Is Hard When You Have a Chronic Illness“:
I feel a lot of guilt that I am ‘not sick enough’ to excuse not doing my best. Since I can get up (reluctantly) every morning and show up for work, I feel like I shouldn’t be complaining. Not to you, and not to anyone. But I know I’m still a dedicated employee, and I’m really good at my job — even though I can’t dedicate all the time in the world to my job because I need to do some healing.
If you’re having a hard time with work-life balance and want to try something else, consider a work-from-home option. You can ask your current employer for an accommodation if you’re comfortable or start looking for a new gig that’s already completely remote. Regardless of your employment journey, know you’re not alone in making difficult decisions to balance your health and work lives.
