What’s new: Singer-songwriter KT Tunstall released a new jam perfect for the COVID-19 pandemic: “Wash Ya Hands.” With a catchy beat, “Wash Ya Hands” reminds listeners to use proper hygiene. The chorus is even 20 seconds long, the recommended time you should spend sudsing up your hands. The short bop features Grace Savage and The Freelance Hellraiser, and all money raised from the single will be donated to the COVID-19 efforts of War Child UK and WaterAid.
Sometimes the best way to get information out there is via an absolute banger of a song. I loved putting this together in lockdown. — KT Tunstall, People
The Frontlines: COVID-19, the disease caused by the novel coronavirus, spreads primarily through respiratory droplets, especially when you touch a contaminated surface and then your face. Hand washing can help reduce your risk of getting and spreading COVID-19.
- Along with wearing a face mask and physical distancing, hand-washing is one of the most effective ways we have to reduce COVID-19 risk
- According to one study (that has not been peer reviewed), 23% of Americans do not regularly wash their hands after using the bathroom
- Experts suggest frequent and correct hand-washing techniques can reduce virus transmission by 30 to 50%
A Mighty Voice: Our contributor, Elizabeth Gerlach, highlighted that hand-washing can protect people at higher risk of illness all the time. “Teaching children proper hand-washing techniques and communicating the importance of it is so critical, especially since this is the number one way to prevent the spread of germs. It can be the difference between life and death for immunocompromised children.” You can submit your first person story, too.
