Finding a pair of comfortable shoes that offers proper support and stability can be tricky for anyone – but when you live with a chronic pain condition like fibromyalgia, this task can become far more challenging. Your shoes shouldn’t cause you any additional pain or exacerbate symptoms, and they should cushion your feet in a way that allows you to move around freely.

With all the shoes out there promising comfort and support, it can be tough to know which ones will work best with your fibromyalgia – so who better to ask for recommendations than your fellow fibromyalgia warriors?

To help others searching for shoes worth the investment, our Mighty community shared the shoe brands they swear by. If you have any additional suggestions, let us know in the comments below!

Here are the shoe brands our fibromyalgia community recommended:

1. Skechers

Skechers D'Lites sneakers with memory foam

Jennifer Lavender Braun told us, “For indoor/casual walking I love the extra cushioning of Skechers Memory Foam shoes. They make standing long hours not so hard on my feet, legs, and back.”

Frida Ståhl also recommended Skechers Memory Foam. “They are the only shoes that not only keep my feet from hurting, but also my knees, hips and my back. Even on days when I’m on my feet a lot,” she said.

“Skechers,” wrote Lakshmi Rajagopalan. “Good support especially when you are standing/moving around for a long time.”

Skechers GoWalk 3’s are the best for me,” added Victoria Checketts.

3. Merrell

Merrell Women's Icepack Polar Waterproof shoes

Buy the Women’s Icepack Polar Waterproof shoes featured above for $120 from Merrell.

4. Birkenstock

milano leather birkenstock sandals

Birkenstock (ones with a 4-degree raise),” said Tess Nobis. “I also have RA [rheumatoid arthritis] and the bones have shifted and fallen in my feet (dropped metatarsal heads). I can’t walk barefoot because it’s like walking on marbles. I can feel the bones grind into the floor and is extremely painful.”

Birkenstocks,” added Samantha Louise Ocallaghan Johnson. “The support eases a lot of the pain.”

5. Altra Escalante

7. Brooks

Brooks Anthem running shoes

Crocs are amazing for around the house, but for everyday walking and stuff I’ve actually found that Brooks Anthem shoes work really well for me,” Faith Michalek told us. “They have are zero drop shoes – which basically means that there’s no extra padding for your heel so it’s almost like whenever you’re walking you are always stretching your calves. Which hurts the first day or so, but it’s helped a whole lot for my tight calves.”

Buy the Anthem running shoes featured above for $69.95 from Brooks.

8. Alegria

alegria dani anise baby tumble shoes

If you work in healthcare, Alegrias are the best! Wide toe box, memory foam arch support, and rocker bottoms to support your feet as you take every step. My podiatrist recommended them and I love them. I’m on my feet for 12+ hours a day and my legs don’t hurt too much at the end of the day. They have better ankle support than Danskos too which is what a lot of nurses tend to wear. They do take a while to break in though so definitely wear them around the house and on errands before you break them out at work,” wrote Amelia Hillier.

Buy the Dani Anise Baby Tumble shoes featured above for $129.95 from Alegria.

9. Converse

Converse Chuck Taylor All Star Shoreline Slip

I don’t have anything specific I wear, but anything like Converse seems to work for me. Nice, flat and light,” Karla Pearce told us. “Anything else I seem to wear hurts almost right away, or will after a while of wearing.”

Converse Shoreline pull-on sneakers [featured above],” said Julie Hanle-Chavez. “They’re roomy enough for my orthotics and I don’t have to worry about tying laces.”
