Grateful to discover The Mighty!
It’s hard to believe that it has been just over a year since I first discovered The Mighty. My life was turned upside down when I was hit, over night, with Functional Neurological Disorder (FND). Overnight I went from being an active, out-going, confident woman who adored her job; to being a person that I barely even knew. I lost my mobility, my independence, my job, my friends and I didn’t know why - it took over 2 years of being passed from pillar to post, having test after test after test, before I finally got a confirmed diagnosis. That seemed to make things even worse because, not only did I not know why my life had been turned upside down, I couldn’t give anyone else an explanation either. I couldn’t help but feel that nobody really believed me and that, somehow, I owed people a reason that I couldn’t give them. It ended up causing me to start battling with depression, anxiety and I felt so lost for so long that I forgot who I really was.
At the start of 2020, I made a New Year’s Resolution to create a ‘Gratitude Jar’ and fill it with little notes, which I call ‘Gratitudes’, that I write throughout the year of things that make me feel thankful and one of the things that I was thankful for last year was discovering The Mighty. When I first joined The Mighty, I was amazed that I had actually found a whole community of people who understood me, who knew what it is like to live with a disability, and other issues, and best of all, I discovered people who had not only heard of FND, but who were actually living with it too. The Mighty community helped me start to find myself a gain and I am so thankful to The Mighty, and all the other Mighties out there, for welcoming me with open arms and for helping me in more ways than I could even say. You are all awesome!👏🏻😘💝
