The Mighty gives a shout-out to all the moms in our lives.
Somewhere right now,
a mom is sitting by a hospital bed,
ferociously Googling words even doctors have trouble pronouncing.
Another is pushing through her chemo treatment,
texting her kids not to worry too much.
One mom is preparing for an IEP meeting,
so her son has all the resources he needs.
Another can’t get out of bed today,
and the guilt from that weighs her down even more.
One mom is staring at her newborn baby,
wondering why she doesn’t feel as happy as all the books said she would.
Another is still trying to become a mom,
asking her body, “Why won’t you do what you’re supposed to?”
One mom is dealing with an unimaginable loss,
wondering how anyone recovers from this.
Another is missing her own mom,
figuring out how to live in a world without her guidance.
One mom’s house is a mess because therapy and therapy and more therapy
replaced the time it’d take to clean.
Another appears to have it all together,
but goes home and cries each evening.
One mom is doing it all on her own,
and having trouble asking for help.
Another is feeling like she’s never going to be enough,
even though she is.
These moms are in countries.
Their skin is different colors, and they speak different languages.
But they have two things in common:
They love their kids more than anything.
And they’re all just doing the best they can.
Here’s to you, moms.
We love you.
