Carrie Underwood Opens Up About Her Three Miscarriages
On Sunday, Carrie Underwood, who is expecting her second child with husband Mike Fisher, shared in an interview with CBS she had three miscarriages in a two-year span prior to her current pregnancy.
“I’d kind of planned that 2017 was going to be the year that I work on new music and I have a baby,” Underwood told CBS. “We got pregnant early 2017, and didn’t work out.”
Initially she believed she would “bounce back,” but she had another miscarriage in 2017, and a third in early 2018. She expressed her conflicting feelings about the miscarriages, telling CBS:
I had always been afraid to be angry because we are so blessed. And my son, Isaiah, is the sweetest thing. And he’s the best thing in the world. And I’m like, ‘If we can never have any other kids, that’s OK, because he’s amazing.’ And I have this amazing life. Like, really, what can I complain about? I can’t. I have an incredible husband, incredible friends, an incredible job, an incredible kid. Can I be mad? No.

When Underwood feared her current pregnancy would result in a fourth miscarriage, she said she did get mad. “Why on Earth do I keep getting pregnant if I can’t have a kid? Like, what is this? Shut the door. Like, do something,” she said. “Either shut the door or let me have a kid.”
Underwood’s experience isn’t uncommon. According to the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, 10 percent of pregnancies will result in a miscarriage. Other women who have experienced miscarriages expressed their support for Underwood via social media.
Carrie Underwood telling the world of her three consecutive miscarriages within a year should be a message for all of us to be kind, respectful and loving towards everyone because you have no idea what is going on in their world behind the megawatt smile plastered on their face.

Despite her fears, after a doctor’s appointment, it was confirmed everything with Underwood’s current pregnancy is going well. She made the news official in a public announcement on Instagram in August.
