Dolores O'Riordan, Lead Singer of The Cranberries, Dies at 46

Dolores O’Riordan, lead singer of Irish rock band The Cranberries, has died suddenly in London, the band announced on Monday. She was 46. No details on the cause of death have been released yet.

“Family members are devastated to hear the breaking news and have requested privacy at this very difficult time,” a statement on Facebook reads.

In 2017, the singer said she was diagnosed with bipolar disorder. Later that year the band canceled concert dates on its European and North America tours, citing O’Riordan’s back problems. Lindsey Holmes, the band’s publicist, told the Associated Press that O’Riordan was in London for a short recording session.

“No further details are available at this time,” Holmes said.

As news broke, the music community began paying their respects to O’Riordan on Twitter.

My first time hearing Dolores O’Riordan’s voice was unforgettable. It threw into question what a voice could sound like in that context of Rock. I’d never heard somebody use their instrument in that way. Shocked and saddened to hear of her passing, thoughts are with her family.
