It’s often easy to talk big picture when it comes to mental health — how we break the stigma and begin to normalize the experiences of mental illness. And while big picture conversations are important, it’s also just as important to talk about the small, everyday moments that help us move through and find hope, support and true connection in the midst of struggle.

That is why American Foundation for Suicide Prevention is sharing #Stories2Connect. #Stories2Connect are small snapshots of how we all play a role by having real conversations about mental health with the people in our everyday moments – whether it’s with those closest to us, or the coffee barista, parking lot attendant, or the grocery store clerk. #Stories2Connect is also about the connection we each have to the cause, whether you’re a teacher, a physician, a mother, a neighbor, a veteran, or a loss survivor or attempt survivor. We hope you’ll join us.

How to Create a #Stories2Connect Post:

Start by selecting the Post button in the navigation bar.

post button

  1. In the Post menu, choose Post a thought. This will open a pop-up window.
  2. If you want, add a title for your thought in the Title field. Make sure to include the hashtag #Stories2Connect.
  3. Write your poem in the Your Thought field.
  4. Don’t forget to include hashtags related to your post (#MentalHealth, #Suicide, #Anxiety, #Depression, #EatingDisorders etc.). Including hashtags in your post will make it more likely that the people who follow that topic get to see what you share. Start by typing # then type the hashtag you want to use. You can select an existing hashtag or create your own.
  5. When you’re finished writing your post and adding your hashtags, select the Post button inside the pop-up window to finish sharing your thought.
  6. You’ll find your post in your Profile. People who follow you and people who follow any hashtags you used will see your thought in their Mighty Homefeed.
  7. Follow the #Stories2Connect hashtag page to see more posts about support on your feed.

Please note: Your post may be shared on American Foundation for Suicide Prevention or The Mighty’s Facebook, Twitter or Instagram accounts.
