…between here and there.

where are You in all this –
between here and there –
as I sit on the sweat stained couch of despair
waiting for bliss?

the courage to get up and walk has waned.
I do the minimal things to survive
I really want to be alive,
while my mind and soul remain pained.

reframe it.
reframe me!

a walk along the Urangan Pier
to feel the unsheltered breeze
often sets my mind at ease.
it’s a journey that I hold so dear.

I don’t really want to reach the end.
I wish that I could go out more
to better see Fraser Island’s shore
and enjoy the sea mist and breeze as a friend.

reframe it.
reframe me!

I know the hard times cannot last.
there’s good to come withheld from my vision
and the walk between here and there is my mission.
there’s good that will come to pass.

so rise up, soul, and overwhelm me
with goodness and joy and life and peace.
reframe my life and never cease
until I become the man You see.

Psalm 77:1-3, 7-9 New Living Translation (NLT)

1 I cry out to God; yes, I shout. Oh, that God would listen to me! 2 When I was in deep trouble, I searched for the Lord. All night long I prayed, with hands lifted toward heaven, but my soul was not comforted. 3 I think of God, and I moan, overwhelmed with longing for his help. Interlude...
7 Has the Lord rejected me forever? Will he never again be kind to me? 8 Is his unfailing love gone forever? Have his promises permanently failed? 9 Has God forgotten to be gracious? Has he slammed the door on his compassion? Interlude

Hebrews 11:8 New Living Translation (NLT)

8 It was by faith that Abraham obeyed when God called him to leave home and go to another land that God would give him as his inheritance. He went without knowing where he was going.

…whisper.

it’s hard to choose to believe the small voice
– the whisper –
that says that everything is going to be alright
even as crops fail, the rains don’t come
and we live in a land that seems forgotten.

reframe it.
reframe me!

my confidence in seeing Your goodness is waning
like the echo of a whisper in the Grand Canyon.
could I build my house there?
overlooking opportunity?
past and present richness?

reframe it.
reframe me!

my timeline for breakthrough has come and gone.
many times, in fact.
more whispers of truth come
will I believe them?

I’ll never leave you or forsake you…
all things work out for good…
I’ll see the goodness of the Lord
in the land of the living…

reframe it.
reframe me!

please, quiet whisper,
prove Yourself true.

Psalm 27:13-14 New Living Translation (NLT)

13 Yet I am confident I will see the Lord’s goodness while I am here in the land of the living. 14 Wait patiently for the Lord. Be brave and courageous. Yes, wait patiently for the Lord.

…flickering candle.

false starts, blown by the wind,
sometimes strong, sometimes week,
sometimes fluid and dynamic,
sometimes solid and stubborn
I am a flickering candle
wax, wick and all.

reframe it.
reframe me!

You won’t snuff me out
or make me a slave to Your whims.
I am Your child, a recipient of Your inheritance,
therefore, place me where Your light needs to shine.

reframe it.
reframe me!

I’m imperfect, yet I have uniqueness.
I burn uneven
sometimes fast, sometimes slow
but please, let this flickering candle
always burn for You.

…release the white dove.

counterfeit living – afraid to be myself
idealistic projections placed on an unreachable shelf
poor in treasure and internal wealth
tired of the battles with mental health

reframe it.
reframe me!

I have so much to offer this world
in spite of my flaws and my brow that’s furled
insecurity has my mind knotted and curled,
though my sin is forgotten and into the depths hurled

reframe it.
reframe me!

the new space will lead to authenticity
yet the time it’s taking is a constant worry
after the months and years of psychotherapy,
the truth doesn’t seem to take hold within me

reframe it.
reframe me!

practice and exercise. faith, hope and love.
one day the click will come from Thanos’ glove,
but the truth constantly streams from Heaven above.
bring peace from Heaven. release the white dove.

...in this I'm blessed.

I know You’re working
– doing something I can’t see –
in this mess.

I know You’re providing
– giving us all we need –
in this test.

I know You’re reframing –
growing inside an eternal seed –
in this chest.

I know You’re building –
building a house with an eternal deed –
in this I’m blessed.

reframe it.
reframe me!

Your grace is sufficient,
covers my weakness,
develops the endurance I’ll need
to reach perfection in eternity.

the keys to the Kingdom!

it hurts!
I don’t like it!
I can’t see the end game.

If I saw what You see,
perhaps I’d run in the opposite direction.
God, I don’t want to just survive.
I want to thrive!
I don’t know what’s next.
perhaps, in this I’m blessed?

so do Your perfect work,
and reframe it.
reframe me!

2 Corinthians 12:9 New Living Translation (NLT)

9 Each time he said, “My grace is all you need. My power works best in weakness.” So now I am glad to boast about my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ can work through me.

James 1:2-4 New Living Translation (NLT)

2 Dear brothers and sisters, when troubles of any kind come your way, consider it an opportunity for great joy. 3 For you know that when your faith is tested, your endurance has a chance to grow. 4 So let it grow, for when your endurance is fully developed, you will be perfect and complete, needing nothing.

…crumbs off the corners.

I surround myself with the wise
psyches… counsellors…
friends who have similar beliefs…
their words are like
the blows of inflatable novelty hammers
on a life-sized gingerbread house.
they’re only able to knock crumbs off the corners.

reframe it.
reframe me!

it’s because the once tasty structure
has grown stale and weathered
- inoculated against attack
- overly protective and judgemental.
the words of evil have made home in the attic
and permeated the whole,
like sugar ants that replace what it’s eaten with concrete.

reframe it.
reframe me!

may the words of my mouth
and meditations of my heart
be pleasing in Your sight
my Rock and Redeemer.
give me the courage
to replace what’s evil
with Your truth.

…mountaintop chateau.

downcast soul
downcast mind.

help me to lift my head.

reframe it.
reframe me!

I’m scared to be myself.
I’m afraid people won’t like what they see.
It’s unbearable to be known as an asshole.

filled with shame and regret
and pain that won’t forget
the wrongs I’ve caused
or the wrongs of others.

reframe it.
reframe me!

I am not the sum total of my failures.
I am protected, shrouded in glorious light.

a soft, compassionate, supernatural hand
gently lifts my chin up
and holds my head firm.

reframe it.
reframe me!

my life is a journey,
as is my recovery.
I note it, and share it.

on the whole, you can probably see
the highs and lows, the ebbs and flows
and one day
perhaps even the views
from the mountaintop chateau.
